The cursed night approaches, or so the story goes. When the clock hits 3am the wolf returns to Hope Hill. The wise leave an offering at their door; else she takes what she is owed.
But it’s only a myth… Don’t believe everything you hear.
Building on the landmark success of Because The Night (2021), Malthouse Theatre ambitiously realises Australia’s next chapter of large-scale immersive theatre. Hour of the Wolf introduces you to Hope Hill, a town that is yours to freely explore on the longest night of the year. Interweaving stories unravel the disturbing disappearances occurring between the hours of 3am and 4am. Choose which of the ten characters to follow, pick left or right at the end of every scene, and trace this night from different points of view.
Everyone has their own truth in Hope Hill.
Immerse in the stories and indulge your curiosity by venturing off the path to solve side quests that unearth the history of the town – it might take you one step closer to meeting the myth herself.
Unlock the Hour of the Wolf.
WHAT HAPPENS IN THE SHOW?
Before you enter the world of Hour of the Wolf, you will be given a headset to be worn during the performance. The dialogue and narration of the story can be heard via headphones. If you can’t hear audio in the headphones, raise your hand and an Usher will provide you with a new pair. If you have issues with your headset at any time in Hope Hill, try finding a new place to stand, as the audio will change depending on your position. If you continue to have issues, please find an Usher for assistance.
Our characters will not interact with you, and in turn you can’t interact with or touch them. This is for your safety and theirs. Make sure to give room to a character if you feel like they are getting close, and please be aware of other audience members in the same space as you.
There is no use of phones during the performance, including photography and/or video. You will not need your phone to experience the show.
Speaking is not permitted as a courtesy to others.
Food and drink is not allowed in the theatre.
You don’t need to rush from scene to scene, as there will be ample opportunity to encounter all the characters and their stories. For the more curious of you, the rooms that do not have performances in them still have stories to tell. If you ever feel the urge to find those stories, we encourage you to follow the less beaten path.
Special thank you to Hour of the Wolf production supporters Anna Foley & Dashiell Gantner, Circle5 Foundation, Craig Reeves, and Michele Levine. Less

World record performance in Melbourne Town Hall
The 40th Sir Bernard Heinze Memorial Concert
“The Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra delivered another vibrant and polished reading.Music director Andrew Wailes conducted with precision and infectious energy urging the chamber-sized orchestra and 100-strong choir to some stirring renditions of the big choir pieces including the famous Hallelujah, Glory to God and For unto us a Child is born. Wailes, favouring brisk tempos, made for exciting listening…” – The Age
“Animation and attention to detail were distinctive features of this performance. The forward momentum established in the opening Sinfony never flagged. The RMP Choir sang with scores neatly closed by their sides for several key choruses, alert to the subtleties of dynamics and tempo in Wailes’ direction. And there were plenty of those to keep the audience absorbed as the work assumed an unexpected freshness… This was an experienced choir, trained with painstaking care to form a disciplined ensemble… the final “Amen” chorus was greeted by such a prolonged standing ovation, with cheers and whistles usually heard at sporting events” – Classic Melbourne
Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Choir & Orchestra presents Handel’s iconic Messiah for the world record 244th time since 1853. The world’s most-loved oratorio, Messiah is famous for its sparkling arias, powerful choruses, and surging climaxes (including the magnificent Hallelujah! Chorus and the equally thrilling Amen! Chorus which concludes the work).
Featuring over 120 talented musicians from the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra, the grand Town Hall organ, and a magnificent cast of outstanding Australian and international soloists, this concert promises to thrill as ever under the direction of Andrew Wailes – widely regarded as one of Australia’s foremost exponents of this great work. Australia’s leading baroque soprano, Perth-based Sara Macliver returns to headline this year’s solo quartet. She will be joined by much-loved mezzzo-soprano Sally-Anne Russell, and making his RMP debut is acclaimed American tenor Kyle Stegall who has performed as soloist with ensembles across the world under celebrated conductors such as William Christie (Les Arts Florissants), Manfred Honeck (Pittsburgh Symphony), and Masaaki Suzuki (Bach Collegium Japan). London-based Australian baritone Jeremy Kleeman returns to his hometown of Melbourne to complete this outstanding quartet.
The RMP’s annual performance of this masterpiece is a much-anticipated highlight of Melbourne’s concert calendar. Don’t miss being part of this wonderful musical tradition.

Meet Chase. She’s living her best life. Just a shame there’s no one left to see it.
Compelling, repelling, and funny. Joined by her zany crew of besties and YouTube subscribers for company, Chase is throwing the party to end all parties. The party to end the world! That’s if any of them actually even exist…
Equally offensive and endearing to theatregoers from every walk of life, Carly Sheppard has been developing and performing the character of Chase for nearly a decade. Now she joins forces with Kamarra Bell-Wykes (A DAYLIGHT CONNECTION) to deliver the most over-the-top, cracked version of Chase yet!
If only Chase understood half of what she helps others discover.
